Watkins Maintains the Advantage - However Calvert-Lewin Might Yet Make the World Cup

Just one goal in his initial ten Premier League appearances this campaign had numerous questioning if Dominic Calvert-Lewin's prime were behind him.

Yet, a only four weeks later, he has become the most talked-about striker in England following netting 7 goals in six consecutive games.

His most recent finish, in a 1-1 draw versus Sunderland, elevated his season's haul to eight, establishing him as the highest English scorer in the Premier League this campaign.

A Remarkable Revival

The 28-year-old moved to Leeds United on a Bosman move in the summer, after a nine-year period with Everton that was blighted by fitness issues in its final stages.

But, the statistics supporting his comeback in Daniel Farke's new fast-breaking 3-5-2 setup are truly notable.

His six-match scoring run places him in elite company as just the 11th English player to score in six or more consecutive Premier League outings.

To frame that statistic, even England captain Harry Kane did not achieve a run lasting this many games - his top stands at two separate five-match runs.

And the only English striker to outdo Calvert-Lewin in the modern era is Jamie Vardy, who embarked on an eight-game scoring run for Leicester City in 2019.
