The fast bowler Set to Play a Major Role in Ashes Series

Pat Cummins bowling

Pat Cummins has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 five-day games with an impressive average.

Australia's chief selector George Bailey has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in this winter's historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might be unavailable due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.

Earlier indications from team management suggested no final decision had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the five-Test series kicking off on the 21st of November in Perth.

The selector shared that his recovery is on track and felt positive about his chances of taking part.

"We know that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations at play, not only the physical problem, but further aspects," the selector added.

"The outlook is good. We firmly believe that he'll participate in a significant role. Hopefully starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."

Past Concerns

The captain missed the ODI and T20 games against New Zealand and India recently after medical tests showed a stress reaction in his back.

He has a history of back injuries, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons forcing him out of multiple domestic campaigns in a limited period.

Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to make the squad for the contest.

The selector indicated that he did not know if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his rehabilitation but conceded it was "becoming urgent" for him to recover fully for the initial match.

Alternative Arrangements

In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.

Versatile player Green was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against India as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "minor" injury and mentioned that he's scheduled to appear in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to resume bowling."

"Considerable effort has gone into developing the strategy for him to participate for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," he elaborated.

"He was only going to play the first two ODIs regardless. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
